“After another four or five hours of walking, we’ll arrive at the tribe!”
Ye Huo looked excitedly at the scenery in the distance. Although his time in the tribe hadn’t been very long, he had already come to regard it as his home.
During these days away, he felt even more deeply the tribe’s strength. Now, he greatly missed the tribe’s houses, the dining hall, and everything else.
Jing, who had grown increasingly steady, also had eyes filled with longing: “I wonder how Rong is doing now. Her belly must be very big already, right? I hope I can make it back in time for the birth of our first child.”
Standing at a high point, Ye Huo shouted: “The tribe is right up ahead! Let’s hurry. We should be just in time for dinner!”
Everyone loudly echoed his call. After trekking through mountains and rivers for so long, they were finally about to reach their destination.
Although the future was uncertain, at least along the way, the resources they saw were very abundant.
All along the journey, they were still able to find food.
Jing also proved with his own ability that, even as a disabled man, he was still a very fierce warrior.
He was deeply familiar with Hei Lie’s soldier-training methods. With him along the way, obtaining food had become much easier.
With so many people, they were even more able to divide the work and cooperate. Hunting efficiency improved a lot.
Following Hei Lie’s methods, Jing organized them into units: ten people formed a squad, a hundred made a small team, and five hundred became a battalion. They were layered down like this for management.
Because of that, even with such a large migration, no chaos broke out.
At the start, Jing and Ye Huo hadn’t gathered nearly this many people. They had spent quite a lot of time and effort before finally finding close to two thousand.
They were very satisfied with this number. Although there were many people on the Eastern Continent, truly large tribes were actually not that many.
Most of them were scattered throughout different parts of the forest. Although more people meant greater safety, it also meant consuming more food.
If resources weren’t abundant enough, it would be hard to meet the needs of the entire tribe.
Only by being spread across various corners of the forest was it easier to obtain enough prey.
In areas where there were large gatherings of people, prey would also keep their distance, making hunting difficult.
Migrating with too many people all at once did ensure greater safety, but it also increased the demand for food, and it was very likely that the supply wouldn’t be able to keep up.
That was why, once they saw their numbers were about enough, they were preparing to head back to the tribe directly.
What they hadn’t expected, however, was that along the way there would always be individuals, or even entire tribes, joining in. And as the numbers grew, they attracted even more people.
By the time they reached the Black Forest, there were already more than ten thousand people, which was completely beyond Jing and Ye Huo’s expectations.
However, they didn’t try to stop these people. Instead, during the time on the road, they made purposeful observations, carrying out training and selection.
During the journey, Jing even drove off or outright killed some people. Those were the ones who forcibly preyed on the weak, and even some who, while others slept, committed murder and cannibalism.
For people like that, Jing showed no mercy.
He not only displayed his warmth and approachability but also his formidable strength.
When facing external enemies, his bravery lifted everyone’s spirits.
If even a man with a broken leg was so fierce, then how powerful must the Spark Tribe be!
The result was that their “tail” grew longer and longer, yet also more obedient. Their innate admiration for strength is revealed to the fullest.
“Your and Rong’s child will definitely become a truly great warrior! A great person.” Ye Huo praised.
Jing’s smile was radiant. Every time his partner and the child in her belly were mentioned, the aura around him would change completely.
“Even if he doesn’t become an outstanding warrior, he will still have a place in the tribe!”
The children of warriors, compared to those of ordinary people, were usually sturdier and healthier, but it wasn’t guaranteed. There was always a chance of giving birth to weaker children.
In a world where only the strong could survive, such children would face very harsh lives.
But in their tribe, there was no need to worry about this.
‘Heaven gave me talents for a purpose’. This was a principle that would always be instilled into anyone who entered the tribe.
“That’s true. No other tribe is like ours, able to embrace all kinds of people.”
“Ye Huo, is it true that the Divine Envoy is very kind?” someone asked.
Although they had already heard Ye Huo and Jing speak of it countless times, they still wanted to ask again, to hear stories about the Divine Envoy.
“He is a truly extraordinary person. Even if you put him in a huge crowd, you could still easily pick him out. He’s that dazzling, and at the same time, he looks so gentle.”
The more Ye Huo spoke, the more excited he became: “You’ve absolutely never seen someone so intelligent. He brought everything to us. Even though he looks so weak and fragile, he can create such immense power!”
Jing stroked his prosthetic limb: “The fact that I could once again become a whole person, to keep living here, is all because of him.”
“I always thought that messengers of the gods were harsh and severe. I never imagined there could be someone like this in the world.”
Ye Huo gave a disdainful snort: “Those people aren’t real Divine Envoys at all. They’re nothing more than demons sent to deceive you. The gods protect us. How could they possibly send someone like that to exploit and bully people?”
Those who called themselves Divine Envoys had always existed. They did indeed have some abilities. If Ye Huo hadn’t met Yang Yi, he would surely have been misled, too.
The reason these people were willing to migrate wasn’t just because the local climate had become unsuitable for survival, or because prey and fruits had sharply decreased.
It was also because some individuals and some tribes took advantage of the natural disasters to impose oppression.
One of their methods was to have so-called “Divine Envoys” lead the people.
Even though life didn’t improve—in fact, it became even harder—the aura of the Divine Envoys made many too afraid to question them.
Unable to keep living on, people thought only of leaving their homelands.
It was only after Ye Huo saw Yang Yi’s greatness that he realized they had been underestimating the true power of the gods.
What’s more, Yang Yi was so kind. Just like the god they all worshiped—almighty, and with a merciful heart.
If someone truly were a Divine Envoy, yet couldn’t make people’s lives better and only made them harder, what kind of envoy was that?
To claim that these hardships came because they angered the heavens, that it was divine punishment, Ye Huo believed it even less.
“Ye Huo, you really shouldn’t speak like that. If it angers the gods, that would be terrible.”
There were still those who feared that those people really were Divine Envoys. Even though they had brought nothing but suffering, they still dared not offend them.
Ye Huo waved his hand dismissively: “There’s no way to explain it clearly to you now, but soon you’ll understand why I’m so certain. Once you see the true Divine Envoy, you’ll never believe those people were sent by the gods. Isn’t that right, Jing?”
“Stay hidden! There’s movement ahead!”
Jing didn’t respond to him, but instead gave an order, his sharp gaze fixed on one spot.
Ye Huo immediately reacted. The others also quickly stopped resting, picked up their weapons, and went on alert.
Their movements were extremely swift, forming a defensive formation in the shortest time.
“Bii—bii—”
The piercing sound of a bamboo whistle rang out not far away. Jing instantly relaxed all over.
“They’re from our tribe!”
He quickly raised the bamboo whistle hanging from his chest and replied with three long and two short blasts.
Not long after, a gust of wind swept past, and a figure flashed before Jing.
“Shan Dian, you’re here—”
But Shan Dian had no time for greetings and cut him off directly: “Jing, you need to hurry back, Rong is about to give birth!”
“What?!”
“Go quickly! If you move fast now, you should still make it in time!”
Jing wanted to run, but then hesitated. Ye Huo hurriedly pushed him.
“Go on, quickly! I can handle things here.”
Jing didn’t pause any longer. He just ran.
Fei shouted after him: “If you keep going a little farther ahead, you’ll reach the road our tribe built. Follow that road and you’ll get there faster!”
To make the transport of coal, iron ore, and other resources more convenient, once the barbarians arrived, the tribe organized large numbers of people to build roads.
Thus, what had originally just been a roughly cleared path was soon built into a proper road, just wide enough for a handcart to pass.
The whole way was very level. Every so often, there were specially made rest courtyards.
“Was it the Divine Envoy who told you to come inform Jing?” Ye Huo asked.
The others all widened their eyes at this. It was just the birth of a child. Would the Divine Envoy really bother sending someone all the way just to give notice?
“Yes,” Fei said with a smile, “the Divine Envoy guessed you must have already reached the area. He didn’t want Jing to miss the birth of his child, so he told me to hurry and notify him.”
Hearing this, everyone began talking among themselves. This tribe really was far too unusual.
Fei then raised his voice and shouted again:
“Come on, everyone, let’s hurry! The tribe has already started preparing dinner for you. Our tribe’s little animals have already begun laying eggs, and some of them have grown big enough to be slaughtered. Tonight, there’ll be a good feast waiting for you!”
“As expected of the Divine Envoy. He even knew we were almost here!”
“Animals raised in their own tribe? So it’s true, they really raise their own animals?”
“With so many of us, could the tribe really have that much food?”
“….”
Everyone was filled with doubt, but their pace was clearly faster than before, completely forgetting the exhaustion of the long journey.
When they finally reached the road built by the Spark Tribe, they were all utterly astonished.
“Why would they build a road like this? Heavens, it’s so long. What could it be for?”
“It’s just for transporting things, yet they went and made it like this. Heavens, what on earth is this tribe trying to do?!”
“……”
When this group arrived at the tribe and crossed the bridge over the moat, they were so overwhelmed with excitement that they couldn’t even speak.
The second great harvest was just about to arrive, and the entire tribe was once again covered with fruits.
This time, the scale was much greater than before. Looking out, it seemed endless, with no end in sight.
Everywhere was laden with ripe fruits, making people’s mouths water with envy.
Those with sharper eyesight could even see, far in the distance, densely built houses.
Ye Huo hadn’t lied!
The tribe he spoke of truly existed!
After a moment of silence, everyone reacted, breaking out into excited cheers and shouts.
They had endured countless hardships to reach this place. Countless times along the way, they had wanted to give up. Yet now they had finally arrived.
It was real. Everything was real.
A place like paradise truly existed.
“Before we enter, I must warn you all: without permission, you absolutely cannot pick anything at will. Otherwise, you’ll be punished. In serious cases, you’ll be expelled immediately.”
Ye Huo stopped in his tracks, his face solemn as he gave the warning.
Although along the way they had never forgotten to instill ideological teachings, there was still unavoidable worry that this group of people, long used to living freely, might sometimes forget to restrain themselves.
“Every squad leader and team leader must enforce this properly. If one person makes a mistake, the whole squad will be punished, and the leaders will bear joint responsibility!”
“Yes!”
The response was uniform, their voices echoing to the skies.
When the great crowd finally arrived at the temple square, what greeted them was the strong, powerful cry of a newborn baby.
A new life had come into the world.
