Yang Shao stood with his back to the mirror, twisting awkwardly to inspect the bite marks on the back of his neck despite the pain. All he saw was a patch of red.
He had told Chen Qiusu countless times not to bite him. While Chen Qiusu always agreed verbally, he would forget in the heat of the moment, and there was no stopping him.
“Hiss…” Yang Shao lightly touched the bite mark with his fingers, sucking in a sharp breath from the pain. He cursed under his breath in the bathroom, “Damn it, is he part dog?”
The moment of peace didn’t last long. Two knocks came at the door, accompanied by Chen Qiusu’s voice, “Yang Shao?”
Hearing his voice now just annoyed Yang Shao. When he wasn’t around, Chen Qiusu would search for him like a child who hadn’t been weaned, calling incessantly.
It was already the fourth day, and there was still no sign of Chen Qiusu’s heat ending. Their activities had been confined to the house, where Chen Qiusu stuck to him like glue, leaving him with zero privacy. Their days consisted of three things: eating, showering, and having sex.
Recently, the meals had been delivered on time by the assistant. Yang Shao had thought about asking him to buy condoms or birth control pills, but he couldn’t bring himself to say it out loud, especially in front of Chen Qiusu.
But more urgent than birth control was stopping Chen Qiusu from biting him. At this rate, he’d be chewed to death before Chen Qiusu’s heat ended.
Unwilling to involve anyone he knew and unable to leave the house, Yang Shao suddenly remembered he could order delivery. But his phone wasn’t with him. Frustrated, he yanked open the bathroom door, only to find Chen Qiusu blocking the doorway like a mountain.
“Why are you yelling?” Yang Shao shoved Chen Qiusu aside. Just a few days ago, he’d been all put-together, but the heat had stripped away any pretense. Now, he was parading around the house stark naked—who was he even showing off to?
Yang Shao caught a glimpse of the bite mark on Chen Qiusu’s chest. The mark was pretty deep. When did I even bite him there? Never mind, he deserves it.
Chen Qiusu answered Yang Shao’s question with all seriousness, “I want to watch you.”
Yang Shao almost got goosebumps hearing that. He was someone who preferred soft approaches over hard ones, and at this point, he was losing ground. “Well, you have to give me some personal space, right? You follow me to the bathroom, you follow me when I’m showering, 24 hours a day. You’d probably follow me for 25 hours if you could.”
Chen Qiusu remained calm, seriously explaining to him the high demands of an alpha during their heat. He couldn’t control himself; it was involuntary. Alphas, like omegas, are fragile during their heat periods. Without a partner’s company, it was like a wilted flower or a parched fish.
Yang Shao was left speechless, unsure of how to respond. In the end, he just said, “Fine, go ahead and follow me.”
He didn’t want to talk about the condom issue for now, but Chen Qiusu really couldn’t bite him again. Taking advantage of a moment when Chen Qiusu wasn’t paying attention, he placed an order for delivery.
The two of them were having a good meal when Chen Qiusu suddenly leaned in. By now, Yang Shao had gotten used to it and didn’t need to guess—it was clearly Chen Qiusu’s heat flaring up again.
“Wait!” He pushed Chen Qiusu’s head away. It was obvious he had prepared for this. He fished a box out of a nearby bag.
Chen Qiusu looked at the box in confusion. The package had big letters on it: “For Medium to Large Dogs.” He stared as Yang Shao took out a bite-blocker.
The bite-blocker for alphas was a medical device, and both bite-blockers and suppressants needed to be purchased in person with real-name registration. They didn’t deliver. Yang Shao had no choice but to order a pet version.
He shamelessly comforted Chen Quisu, “Just bear with it.”
Chen Qiusu wouldn’t even wear the human version, let alone the dog version. He pressed his lips together, his brow furrowed, staring at Yang Shao in silence.
Yang Shao used all kinds of persuasion and tricks to get him to wear it, even though Chen Qiusu clearly didn’t want to.
The rubber material didn’t hurt Chen Qiusu, but once the lock was fastened, the muzzle tightly encircled his jaw. He only revealed a pair of resentful eyes, which made him seem oddly chaste.
Yang Shao blocked his eyes with his arm. He couldn’t watch anymore. He just focused on enjoying himself, but halfway through, Chen Qiusu suddenly stopped.
Yang Shao moved his arm in confusion. “What’s wrong?”
“I want to kiss you,” Chen Qiusu’s eyes were deep, a little misty. He touched Yang Shao’s lips with the muzzle part, aggrieved.
Yang Shao stayed silent, unwilling to listen to him acting pitiful.
“Yang Shao…” Even though the muzzle was hollow, Chen Qiusu’s voice sounded muffled.
Yang Shao cursed himself inwardly for being too soft-hearted. He reached out and unlocked the strap.
On the fifth day, Chen Qiusu’s heat finally eased. He still liked to cling to Yang Shao a bit, but he had calmed down a lot.
……
At the end of the year, there were a bunch of tasks waiting for Chen Qiusu at work. Yang Shao accompanied him to the hospital to check his pheromone levels, which, for the first time in a long while, had exceeded the normal range.
The doctor specifically reminded Yang Shao, “Since you’re not an omega, Mr. Chen may feel insecure. You’ll need to spend more time with him during his free hours.”
The subtext was that since he hadn’t been marked, Yang Shao would need to comfort Chen Qiusu more.
Yang Shao felt too embarrassed to argue. He gritted his teeth and didn’t say anything. It was so annoying. Yang Tao bothered him usually, and now Chen Qiusu was starting to get on his nerves. He must have done something wrong to deserve these two.
“I’ll send you home,” Chen Qiusu said after they left the hospital. He didn’t have time to go home and had to head to the company.
Yang Shao refused, “You go ahead with your work. I’ll take a taxi back.”
The possessiveness and masculinity of an alpha didn’t allow their partner to wander outside alone or ride in someone else’s car. Chen Qiusu had already been quite restrained by not tying Yang Shao up and taking him to the company.
“I’ll take you. It’s only a little while.”
Yang Shao had initially planned to stop by a pharmacy to buy the morning-after pill, though it had already been 72 hours since their first time. He still held out some hope. Now that Chen Qiusu insisted on sending him, well, let him! He didn’t care anymore.
Just moments ago, he was sulking, but after getting in the car, Yang Shao quickly fell asleep, his arms crossed. Chen Qiusu gently turned his head to rest on his shoulder.
The assistant, ever perceptive, quietly told Chen Qiusu, “Mr. Chen, the medicine you requested is in the back seat.”
Biting one’s partner during heat was the most natural thing for an alpha. Chen Qiusu knew Yang Shao was hurt, but he just couldn’t control himself. Yang Shao was probably angry with him by now.
He took out a tube of ointment from the back seat and squeezed some onto Yang Shao’s neck. It seemed to hurt a little, as Yang Shao frowned deeply.
“Mr. Chen, your cousin has tried to contact you a few times. You mentioned it wasn’t urgent, so I didn’t disturb you at the time.”
Chen Qiusu answered with a grunt, “Did he say what it was about?”
“He didn’t specify, but he recently lost a lot of money gambling and is being pressured by debt collectors. I think he wants money.”
His cousin was useless, good-for-nothing. If he only wanted to be lazy and eat, the company’s monthly bonus would be enough for him, but he was addicted to gambling, and gambling was a bottomless pit that could ruin any fortune.
His father only helped because of his aunt, but his cousin was ungrateful and kept making things worse.
Chen Qiusu didn’t want to talk about it. “By the way, will I have any free time before the end of the year?”
His heat had already taken up his vacation time, and he had promised Yang Tao that once they were home, he would take him to see the snow. He couldn’t go back on his word.
The assistant looked troubled, “I’m afraid not.”
“Not even a day or two?”
“Mr. Chen, do you have other plans?”
“I want to take Yang Tao to Country L, the little one wants to play in the snow.”
Even if it’s just for one or two days abroad, forget about playing in the snow—Chen Quisu wouldn’t even be able to adjust to the time difference.
“I beg you, don’t be like Yang Tao, blowing things out of proportion.” Yang Shao couldn’t listen anymore. Actually, he hadn’t slept much; when Chen Qiusu was applying medicine to him, he couldn’t sleep. He just wanted to close his eyes and rest for a bit.
“But I promised him.”
Yang Shao lifted his head, wide awake now, “You’ve got serious business to attend to. You just need to explain it to him properly. And it’s almost the New Year, aren’t you busy enough already?”
The assistant, afraid that the boss and Mr. Yang might start arguing, quietly raised his hand, “If you are too busy and don’t want to disappoint the young master, we could consider other options boss. You don’t have to go abroad; if it’s just about the snow, there’s a new snow park in XX Mountain in our city. One or two days would be enough.”
Knowing that Chen Qiusu would insist on going, Yang Shao immediately spoke, “The place sounds pretty good.”
“Really?” Chen Qiusu still seemed a bit hesitant.
“Really, it doesn’t matter where you go. Even if you just take Yang Tao to the supermarket, he’ll be happy.”
Chen Qiusu thought about it; he really didn’t have time right now. He could take Yang Tao abroad after the New Year. He nodded and told the assistant, “Help me confirm the dates and book the hotel and tickets.”
…..
Knowing that his dad and Uncle Chen would be home that day, Yang Tao waited at the door early. When he heard the engine sound from afar, he excitedly shouted to his grandmother, “It’s Daddy and Uncle Chen!”
As soon as the car door opened, before anyone could step out, Yang Tao rushed straight to the back seat. “Daddy!”
He didn’t even see the person clearly, but just jumped into Chen Qiusu’s arms, calling, “Daddy.” Chen Qiusu picked him up and put him inside the car, and only then did Yang Tao realize he had mistaken the person.
Even knowing that Yang Tao had mistakenly called him daddy, hearing that word from him made Chen Qiusu’s heart feel heavy. Maybe this was the feeling of raising a child—his heart felt full, like something was filling it up.
Yang Shao didn’t correct Yang Tao’s way of addressing. He patted Yang Tao’s head and teased, “What’s wrong? Who’s been treating you badly?”
Yang Tao was eating well and growing plump, acting like a little boss at home.
Yang Shao got out of the car from the other side, took Yang Tao in his arms, and said to Chen Qiusu, “see you in the evening.”
Yang Tao pouted, reluctantly saying goodbye to his Uncle Chen, wondering why he was leaving again when he hadn’t even gone inside yet.
“So heavy, I can barely carry you.” Yang Shao lifted Yang Tao up and weighed him.
Yang Tao sniffed his dad’s neck, “Daddy, you smell like Uncle Chen.”
