UNCLTRD chapter 49

“Since Yang Shao is so understanding, Qiusu won’t stop him,” He Yudong said, smug.

Now that Yang Shao had spoken, Chen Qiusu couldn’t continue to refuse the paternity test on the grounds of hurting Yang Shao and his son.

Under the watchful eyes of everyone, it was nearly impossible for Chen Qiusu to manipulate the results of the paternity test. He couldn’t understand, what could Yang Shao possibly do to turn the tide? Was it possible that Yang Shao knew the outcome and was using this opportunity to break up with him? No, Yang Shao wouldn’t do that.

Chen Qiusu looked at Yang Shao with a sharp gaze. What was he thinking?

After the sample was taken, everyone stayed in the waiting room. The mixed pheromones made Yang Tao uneasy, and he buried his face in Chen Qiusu’s chest, sobbing quietly.

“Dad… why are they so fierce?” Yang Tao cried so much his voice was hoarse, sounding muffled. “I’m really your son…”

Chen Qiusu silently pressed down on the back of Yang Tao’s head. As long as Yang Tao acknowledged it, that was enough. As for what others thought, the paternity test results—none of that mattered. “Don’t be afraid.”

When Yang Tao called Chen Qiusu “Dad,” He Yudong, feeling triumphant, sneered, “Yang Tao is quite good at playing both sides. He didn’t want to call him that before, but now he’s calling him smoothly. Now that you’re calling Qiusu ‘Dad,’ maybe you’re anxious, but you can always wait for the results to come out before calling him that.”

Seeing how lively everyone was, Yang Shao had a feeling of being a bystander. He originally wanted Chen Qiusu to spend time with Yang Tao while he went outside for a cigarette. He didn’t expect He Yudong to come forward with his sarcastic remarks.

Chen Qiusu’s family was well-mannered; they didn’t engage in such petty behavior. Since He Yudong came looking for trouble, Yang Shao took on a stance similar to when he argued with someone at the market, speaking slowly, “What are you in a hurry for? Did Yang Tao steal your place? If you want to call Chen Qiusu ‘Dad,’ too, go ahead.”

He Yudong stood there with his mouth open in silence, only after a while did he realize that Yang Shao had snapped at him. In front of everyone, he didn’t dare to take action against Yang Shao. Eventually, feeling embarrassed and furious, he muttered a harsh remark, “Once the paternity test results come out, let’s see if you can still act so smug.”

After sending the nuisance away, Yang Shao stood up, ready to leave. But after taking one step, he felt a tight grip on his hand as Chen Qiusu held him back.

“Where are you going?” Chen Qiusu’s pupils showed a clear, hidden fear.

Yang Shao patted Chen Qiusu’s hand, no longer wanting a cigarette. “I’m going to ask the nurse for some frostbite ointment. I haven’t applied any yet.”

Seeing how scared Chen Qiusu was, Yang Shao figured that now that he had left Yang Tao with him as “hostage,” he might as well get some space.

Soon, Yang Shao returned with the ointment. While applying it to Yang Tao, Chen’s parents gathered around.

Yang Tao, bare-bottomed, let his dads apply the ointment. There were so many people around, he forgot about the injury and felt a bit shy. “Grandpa… please stop looking.”

“It doesn’t look that serious.” Chen Shiliang pressed gently on the frostbitten area on Yang Tao’s bottom, “Our Yang Tao’s grown up and even feels shy.”

Chen’s mother had already noticed Yang Shao’s frostbite. “Yang Shao, this is quite serious, how could you be so careless? When Qiusu called and said you two got lost, I almost had a heart attack.”

Yang Shao felt that if he had a tail, it would be sticking straight up by now. At this moment, the elders first worry was about him and Yang Tao’s safety. They trusted him just as they trusted Chen Qiusu, and probably only family would stand by them like this.

“Grandma, I found the scarf you prepared for me, but don’t make me do the check-up,” Yang Tao wanted to show her the scarf, but his dad had left it in the car when they got out.

Yang Shao quickly explained, “Yang Tao looks pale because of car sickness. He’ll be fine once he eats something.”

It was Yang Shao who truly understood Yang Tao. After being comforted by Chen Qiusu’s pheromones, Yang Tao soon felt hungry. The hospital food was light, but he ate it up happily. After finishing, he stopped crying and stood next to Chen Qiusu, staring at him carefully.

He wanted to take a good look at his Alpha father.

Chen Qiusu’s heart was in chaos, but Yang Tao’s actions were adorable. His eyes were full of curiosity, and soon he made Chen Qiusu smile.

“What are you looking at?”

Yang Tao stood in front of Chen Qiusu and glanced at Yang Shao. “I want to see if Daddy is lying to me.”

“Lying about what?”

Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps interrupted Yang Tao. He Yudong, ahead of everyone, snatched the documents from someone’s hand. His gaze challenged Chen Qiusu as he pretended to be neutral. “I’m not surnamed Chen or Yang. I’m here to look at the paternity test as a precaution.”

He Yudong didn’t wait for anyone to object, ripping open the paternity report. He eagerly looked at the final results, but the smug expression on his face froze.

Why was it like this? Chen Qiusu had seemed guilty all along.

Chen Shiliang took the report from his hands, and the conclusion boldly stated, “Supports that Chen Qiusu is Yang Tao’s biological father.”

“Does this result give everyone an explanation? Yang Tao is my biological grandson. Does anyone still have any objections?”

Chen’s mother breathed a sigh of relief, feeling a bit angry. “How could I doubt my own grandson? Yang Tao and Qiusu look exactly the same when they were kids, it’s like they’re cut from the same mold. Listening to rumors and believing them, it’s truly heartbreaking!”

An elder stood up to speak. “Since it’s like this, we naturally have no objections.”

Everyone knew who had been stirring the pot. Chen Shiliang was utterly disappointed with his nephew. This was a mess of his own making.

“He Yudong, our family doesn’t welcome you anymore. Don’t ever think we’ll help you again.”

Chen Qiusu looked at Yang Shao in shock, almost unable to hear what was being said around him. Why? His gaze lingered on Yang Shao, as though trying to find an answer on his face.

At that moment, Yang Shao avoided Chen Qiusu’s gaze, awkwardly looking around.

This whole mess had been going on for hours, and everyone was exhausted. After leaving the hospital, Chen Qiusu held Yang Tao in one arm and pulled Yang Shao into the car with the other.

The atmosphere in the car was tense, and Yang Shao felt as though his bones were being crushed. He stole a glance at Chen Qiusu’s profile. Normally gentle, his face now showed a hint of coldness. Only when Yang Tao looked up and spoke to him did his expression soften a little.

Yang Tao was excited but also a bit nervous. He was almost restless, climbing up onto the car seat and stepping onto Chen Qiusu’s leg. He softly called out, “Dad,” but didn’t continue. Chen Qiusu gently responded, silently protecting Yang Tao’s safety without stopping him.

Yang Shao knew this expression was for him.

The news of the hospital incident had reached Yang Tao’s great grandmother’s ears, and she must have been scared for him. Once they got home, she quickly pulled Yang Tao out of the car, while angrily scolding He Yudong. “You scared our Yang Tao!”

Yang Tao had great self-regulation. After recognizing Chen Qiusu as his father, he had completely forgotten the worries he had in the morning. He didn’t even remember whether he had been scared or not. Now, he was just happy.

All the elders gathered around Yang Tao. Compared to the morning’s incident at the hospital, Yang Tao was much more interested in talking about yesterday’s snowstorm, where he got lost with his daddy. He vividly told everyone all about it.

Chen Qiusu quietly watched Yang Tao, taking advantage of the fact that everyone’s attention was on him, and pulled Yang Shao upstairs.

Once the door closed, the scent of cedar filled the air, almost like a storm was about to break. Yang Shao stepped back, pouting, distancing himself from Chen Qiusu.

“Aren’t you going to explain to me? Why do we have Yang Tao? Why didn’t you tell me?” Chen Qiusu’s mind was in turmoil. From the initial panic to the current confusion, how could Yang Tao be his son? Why was this happening?

Yang Shao was more receptive to gentle approaches than forceful ones. When Chen Qiusu pressed him, he couldn’t help but get a little heated, “What do you want me to tell you? Don’t you know more about how Yang Tao came to be than I do?”

Chen Qiusu was left speechless. It all traced back to that incident five years ago.

“Should I still praise you for being unusually gifted?” What should he tell him? How should he tell him? The more Yang Shao thought about it, the angrier he got. When he first discovered Yang Tao’s existence, he was even more scared, flustered, and surprised than Chen Qiusu. Was he supposed to walk up to the alpha who forced him into this situation, with a big belly?

Chen Qiusu was at a loss for words. He wasn’t questioning Yang Shao, he was just… his parents had mistakenly believed Yang Tao was their grandson, and he was the only one left in the dark.

“You didn’t say anything because I still don’t deserve your trust, right?” Chen Qiusu felt his confidence waver. Yang Shao maintained his boundaries—did he plan to just walk away with Yang Tao once the year was up?

Yang Shao couldn’t stand Chen Qiusu’s aggrieved expression. If he had asked this before, Yang Shao would have definitely agreed, but Chen Qiusu had already crossed a line. He took care of both him and Yang Tao selflessly, tried hard to make him happy, and then there was the damn heat cycle, and yesterday, when he risked everything to protect them.

Chen Qiusu was so good at this, making him and Yang Tao reliant on him. How could he then just leave with Yang Tao?

“I was planning to say it this morning, but who knew such a big group of people would show up? How could I talk to you about it? What was Yang Tao even looking at? Wasn’t he just seeing if you’re really his alpha dad? Do you think this is something easy to bring up? Yang Tao has had only me his whole life. Do you think he can accept suddenly having an alpha dad?”

Things in this world are so coincidental. Yang Shao and Chen Qiusu had met by chance and reunited in another coincidence. A single word, “fate,” caused their paths to cross.

Chen Qiusu knew he wasn’t in a position to question Yang Shao. He was just too afraid, too surprised. To suddenly have this, and then to be afraid of losing it, he grabbed Yang Shao’s hand, “Are you going to leave? Are you going to take Yang Tao with you?”

“Where would I go? You know where my house is. Where else could I go?” Yang Shao was being stubborn. He refused to open up and only answered Chen Qiusu’s questions indirectly.

But Chen Qiusu wasn’t letting him off this time. “You know I don’t want to hear that.”

“Yang Tao can’t live without you…” Yang Shao was at a loss under Chen Qiusu’s sincere gaze, “I can’t either…”

Chen Qiusu took a step forward, pulled Yang Shao into his arms. The anxiety and fear from the hospital earlier, he had to express it to Yang Shao. “Back at the hospital, I really didn’t know what to do.”

Yang Shao could understand Chen Qiusu’s worries. He gently patted his back.

The door suddenly creaked open, and Yang Tao, standing on tiptoe, grabbed the door handle and peeked in. He saw figures in the dim light. “Dad…”

Chen Qiusu released Yang Shao and squatted down, opening his arms to Yang Tao. “Yang Tao, come to Dad.”
