UNCLTRD chapter 57

Extra 6

The scent of laundry detergent mixed with the fragrance of cedar was unexpectedly pleasant and even had a calming effect. After waking up from an afternoon nap, Yang Shao momentarily lost track of time. When he looked out the window, he felt a sense of emptiness. But when he saw Chen Qiusu sitting at the desk, that emptiness was instantly filled.

The baby in his belly was already five months old. With the second pregnancy, Yang Shao had completely adapted to his current state. Recently, his appetite had grown, and upon waking up, he felt very hungry. He noticed that the half-eaten snacks from the night before had been taken away, so he could only get up slowly.

Chen Qiusu had already sensed Yang Shao waking up, but since Yang Shao’s temper had been getting shorter since the pregnancy, if Chen Qiusu got too close to him, Yang Shao would get angry. Besides, the doctor had said that Yang Shao’s comfort should come first. Following the doctor’s advice, Chen Qiusu made sure to give Yang Shao some space. If Yang Shao needed him, he would call him, and it would be better to approach then.

After getting out of bed, Yang Shao wandered aimlessly around the bedroom. His gaze finally landed on Chen Qiusu’s water cup. He blinked, walked over to Chen Qiusu, picked up the cup, and drank all the water in it. Then, he slowly walked toward the door.

With his growing belly, his movements had slowed down a lot, but every step was steady. Chen Qiusu hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should follow him. By the time he made up his mind, Yang Shao’s figure had already disappeared from sight.

The sound of footsteps echoed in the hallway. Yang Shao didn’t want to take the elevator. He habitually walked down the stairs. From the second floor, he could see Yang Tao, sprawled out on the sofa with his little blanket, fast asleep. His great-grandmother was sitting beside him. Chen’s father’s shadow was cast on the floor, busy in the garden with the plants. Chen’s mother was likely in the kitchen.

“You’re up,” Great-grandmother, with her sharp eyes, noticed Yang Shao standing on the second floor and instinctively tried to get up.

Yang Shao called out, “Grandma, I’ll come down myself.”

Hearing his voice, Chen’s parents stopped what they were doing. The whole family watched as Yang Shao made his way downstairs. Having gotten used to being the center of attention, Yang Shao, who had once been a little socially anxious, was now calm and collected in this kind of situation.

When he stepped down the last stair, everyone’s tense hearts relaxed.

Yang Shao had come down to find something to eat. He licked his lips and said to Chen’s mom, “Mom, I’m a bit hungry.”

“Hungry? You could have had someone bring it up to you. Why come down yourself? There’s some food ready in the kitchen. Let me have someone make you something.”

“I just slept too long and wanted to get up and walk around.” Yang Shao walked over to the sofa and noticed that Yang Tao’s little blanket had been pulled all the way over his forehead, leaving his small belly exposed. He wanted to fix the blanket for him. “He sleeps like a little piglet.”

Great-grandmother wouldn’t let him bend over and immediately fixed the blanket for Yang Tao. “He was feeding the fish with his grandfather just now. He stepped right into the pond and had to change his clothes. He sat down for a bit but got tired and didn’t want to go upstairs to sleep.”

Still as sturdy as ever. Yang Shao couldn’t help but pinch Yang Tao’s cheek. Yang Tao was sleeping soundly, not moving at all. But when he smelled the food his dad was having for a snack, he woke up.

Yang Tao rubbed his eyes and looked at Yang Shao, who was sitting at the dining table. “Daddy, what are you eating?”

Just then, there was a small chicken drumstick in the bowl, Yang Tao’s favorite. Yang Shao motioned for him to come over and handed him the bowl and chopsticks.

“Yang Tao, are you hungry? Grandma asked someone to make you food. Don’t take your Dad’s.”

It was getting close to dinnertime, so a small snack like a chicken leg would be fine for Yang Tao, but if he ate too much, he wouldn’t be able to eat dinner later.

Yang Shao quickly said, “Let him eat.”

Although Chen Qiusu said it was fine for Yang Shao to do what he could, he still wasn’t completely reassured. After a while, he left the room. Looking down from the second floor, he saw Yang Tao holding up the chicken drumstick, trying to tempt Yang Shao into eating. Yang Shao was sitting with his cheek resting on his hand, unmoved, his expression unreadable.

“Dad!” Yang Tao was the first to spot Chen Qiusu and couldn’t help but shout.

Hearing the voice, Yang Shao turned his head, a smile still on his lips. Chen Qiusu felt a sense of relief. Oh, he was smiling.

During the pregnancy of their second child, Yang Shao hardly worried. Chen’s mother and grandmother had already arranged everything for the hospital. When the due date arrived, they went to the hospital, and the delivery was natural.

After Yang Shao and the baby were brought out of the delivery room, his mind was still very clear, though he was in some pain and didn’t have the energy to talk much.

“Daddy!” Yang Tao broke free from Chen Qiusu’s hold and ran straight to Yang Shao.

A crowd gathered around. Great-grandmother was overjoyed, “It’s a girl, so beautiful! Look at those eyes, just like Qiusu.”

Yang Shao furrowed his brow. If he hadn’t seen newborn babies before, he might have been tricked by great-grandmother’s words. The baby looked just like Yang Tao, all wrinkled. Where was the beauty? The filter was way too thick.

“I want to see too! Let me see my little sister!” Yang Tao, unable to reach, anxiously circled around the adults.

When the baby was handed to Chen Qiusu, he leaned in to show Yang Shao. The little new born and the somewhat frail Yang Shao made tears uncontrollably spill from his eyes.

The baby’s cries were loud enough. Yang Shao calmly looked at Chen Qiusu. “What are you crying for? You two are even competing, who are you comforting, her or yourself?”

Yang Tao tilted his head, observing Chen Qiusu’s expression, and only saw his alpha father with reddened eyes. He looked worried. “Dad.”

Chen Qiusu was caught off guard, pinched the bridge of his nose, and smiled to cover up his emotional slip. Sometimes, love really does bring tears.
