WTDWPK Chapter 33

The Unreliable Master

As night gradually fell, fireworks and firecrackers were banned in Beijing, which made the New Year feel a bit subdued. But the most important thing was that the whole family could be together.

When Song’s mother came to the Fu household, she didn’t feel uncomfortable—after all, the Fu family was very kind to her.

Song Yu was arranged to stay in Fu Yuqian’s room, since there was only one guest room left, which Song’s mother would occupy. She looked a bit conflicted, but she trusted Fu Yuqian, and with everyone around, she believed he wouldn’t try anything inappropriate.

At the moment, Song’s mother and the others had gone to the kitchen to help prepare dinner. He Ling reluctantly let Fu Yuqian go take care of Song Yu and told him not to worry about helping with the New Year’s Eve meal. So Fu Yuqian carried Song Yu back to the room.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw Song Yu sleeping quietly on the bed. Fu Yuqian’s breath hitched slightly, and his gaze couldn’t tear away from Song Yu.

He didn’t know how many times he had imagined this scene in his mind.

The moment Song Yu saw Fu Yuqian’s expression, he knew something was off. This guy was clearly drooling over his beautiful body again. Song Yu quickly sat up, raised his paw, and slapped him across the face—“Fu Yuqian, don’t you dare do anything bad to my body!”

The slap snapped Fu Yuqian back to his senses. He walked over and sat at the edge of the bed, gently placing Song Yu down on it.

His physical body was still asleep. Naturally, Fu Yuqian wouldn’t and couldn’t do anything—he couldn’t bear to. He lifted Song Yu’s slender, fair hand and gently kissed the back of it, softly whispering, “Wake up soon, my little prince.”

Song Yu had been watching him like a hawk, but seeing that he only gave a restrained kiss on the back of his hand, he finally relaxed a little. Still, Fu Yuqian would be sharing the bed with his body tonight, so Song Yu remained on high alert.

After the New Year’s Eve dinner was ready, He Ling turned on the TV and played the Spring Festival Gala in the background while everyone gathered around the table, warm and lively.

He Ling enjoyed the festive atmosphere, though she couldn’t help but sigh with a hint of regret: “It’s a pity Xiao Yu can’t join us this year. Hopefully next New Year, he’ll be able to sit right here. Yuqian, you have to work hard, okay?”

“I will,” Fu Yuqian promised.

Song Yu flicked his tail and narrowed his eyes: Let’s see how you perform, then.

Fu Yuqian, being a celebrity who paid close attention to his figure, didn’t eat much. Song Yu, on the other hand, was in a good mood and didn’t hold back—he ate quite a lot. Song’s mother hadn’t felt this kind of happiness and liveliness in a long time; her eyes were filled with joy, which made Song Yu feel a little guilty. In previous years, he had either been performing at the Spring Festival Gala or busy with other work, rarely able to spend New Year’s Eve with his mother. She must have felt very lonely.

So, spending New Year’s together like this from now on was really nice.

After dinner, everyone sat together chatting and watching the Spring Festival Gala. With He Ling and Ying Qi there, the atmosphere was lighthearted and cozy. Soon, it was eleven o’clock. Song’s mother, who was used to sleeping and waking early, started to feel sleepy.

She pulled Fu Yuqian aside, a little embarrassed, and said, “I know you’re a good kid. Xiao Yu hasn’t woken up yet, so… please treat him well.”

“Auntie, I truly love and admire Xiao Yu,” Fu Yuqian promised over and over, afraid she might misunderstand. “Even when he wakes up, I will completely respect his wishes.”

“That’s good,” Song’s mother replied, her face a bit red with embarrassment. After saying that, she quickly returned to the guest room.

Song Yu bowed his head and chuckled silently: See? Even my mom can see your beastly nature.

Originally, Song Yu had been nervous and anxious, but to his surprise, after Fu Yuqian finished showering, he pulled out an inflatable mattress—apparently planning to sleep on the floor.

Song Yu was puzzled. Had Fu Yuqian suddenly turned over a new leaf?

As if he could read Song Yu’s thoughts, Fu Yuqian patted his head and placed him beside his sleeping body. “If I get into bed, I probably won’t be able to sleep. Keep him company.”

Having already been deeply influenced by Fu Yuqian’s usual behavior, Song Yu instantly understood what he meant. His cheeks flushed as he curled up beside his own body.

In his dream, Song Yu felt like he had returned to his own body—but he couldn’t move, nor could he open his eyes. All he could feel was a deep sense of comfort, like being soaked in warm water. He also sensed some sort of change happening in his body. Later, someone kissed him. It felt like the “true love’s kiss” out of a fairytale, and he couldn’t help but lift the corners of his lips. He guessed it was Fu Yuqian.

Fu Yuqian was woken up in the middle of the night by a faint glow from the bead around Song Yu’s neck. When he opened his eyes, he saw that Song Yu’s body seemed to be glowing, its luster soft and radiant like warm jade. Fu Yuqian was astonished and instinctively held his breath, not daring to interrupt. Song Yu’s expression was relaxed and peaceful, so Fu Yuqian assumed it wasn’t harmful. He silently committed the moment to memory, planning to ask Jiaye about it later.

After about ten minutes, the light gradually faded. Fu Yuqian reached out to touch Song Yu’s arm and found his skin smooth as silk, with an incredibly pleasant texture. He glanced at the cat form of Song Yu again, but couldn’t see any obvious change for the moment.

Finally, Fu Yuqian bent down and kissed Song Yu’s soft, red lips—and saw that his lips curled slightly upward, as if he sensed it.

Was Song Yu about to wake up?

But the next day, Song Yu still woke up in his cat body. He stretched his front and back legs out long in a lazy stretch, let out a huge yawn, and was once again a high-energy, ridiculously adorable little cat. He turned his head to look at his human body and found—he seemed even more damn handsome than before!

But after looking more closely, he didn’t notice anything wrong. After all, he had already been devastatingly handsome to begin with.

Fu Yuqian and Qin Erge (Second Brother Qin) were both really good-looking too.

Fu Yuqian had been observing quietly, and indeed noticed slight changes in Song Yu. His features and physique had become even more perfect—this kind of face could withstand any test, whether on the big or small screen.

Was this compensation for becoming a cat?

Because of this, Fu Yuqian used the excuse to keep Song Yu at home for a few more days. Over the next two nights, the glowing transformation happened again. But by the fourth night, the glow no longer appeared, and the bead had lost its luster. Meanwhile, Song Yu’s appearance became more and more exquisite. His facial features hadn’t changed much, yet it became impossible to look away. Even Song’s mom was a bit confused—Was her son always this good-looking?

Song Yu started to feel like he was developing a narcissism problem.

Why am I so damn good-looking?!

On the afternoon of the third day of the New Year, Qin Yuqiu left. Fu Yuting and Ying Qi also moved back to their small apartment. Fu Yuan and He Ling had booked a flight for the fifth day of the New Year. Song’s mom was reluctant to see them go. She had developed a deep bond with He Ling over the past few days—He Ling had a great personality and lots of knowledge. But fortunately, in the coming years, they planned to shift their work focus back to China, so meeting up wouldn’t be as difficult.

He Ling had, of course, noticed Song Yu’s transformation—and she was practically ready to scream. Don’t stop her—she was ready to marry her husband right now! She even considered canceling her plane ticket and staying in China.

Fu Yuqian kept a calm face, but privately he was calling Jiaye repeatedly. When Jiaye finally picked up, Fu Yuqian explained Song Yu’s changes in detail. Jiaye chuckled lightly and said, “No need to panic, Mr. Fu. That string of beads is no ordinary item. I was deep in cultivation in the mountains as a child when it suddenly appeared in my room one day.”

“…”

A product with no origin or explanation? Fu Yuqian was silently furious.

“I felt its power the moment I wore it. Not only did my appearance change, but my senses became more acute,” Jiaye continued. “When I saw Song Yu, something in me told me I had to give him one. Honestly, it pained me to do it.”

Fu Yuqian: “…”

He didn’t even know how to respond.

“Master Jiaye, when will Song Yu wake up?”

“I can’t calculate that anymore,” Jiaye admitted with some frustration. “The bead has shrouded his fate. I can’t see anything.”

Fu Yuqian sucked in a cold breath. He very nearly wanted to storm into Jiaye’s house and beat him up.

But assaulting a master wasn’t a good look. Swallowing his anger, Fu Yuqian just said “got it” and hung up.

Jiaye felt wronged. He had meant to say that once Song Yu woke up, he’d have to return the bead—and even compensate Jiaye for the loss. He hadn’t made it clear earlier: that one million yuan was only a rental fee.

But where did that string of beads really come from?

After observing for several more days, Fu Yuqian had Ying Qi bring over equipment to run a full checkup on Song Yu’s body. The results showed Song Yu was very healthy, with no need for hospitalization. Ying Qi also suggested there was no need to return to Sheng’an Hospital. He could assign a home care nurse to perform regular muscle maintenance.

Fu Yuqian discussed it with Song’s mom and agreed to go with Ying Qi’s recommendation.

In the same villa community, Fu Yuqian owned a neighboring house—originally purchased as an investment. Though it had only undergone simple renovations, it was fully furnished. Fu Yuqian had Liu Le arrange for it to be cleaned, stocked with daily essentials, and prepped for Song Yu and his mother to move in.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want Song Yu living with him. But first, he’d be busy with work after the New Year and might not always be home. If he returned late at night, he could disturb Song’s mom. Second, out of caution—even though the villa had good privacy—if someone happened to take a photo, it could cause trouble.

Song Yu also thought the arrangement was pretty good.

On the fifth day of the New Year, after seeing Fu Yuan and He Ling off, Fu Yuqian drove to Huacan Entertainment to meet with Yin Lang and the team to discuss this year’s work plans. Besides the web drama he’d already committed to, he also needed to release another album and prepare for at least five medium-to-large-scale concerts. It would serve as a farewell gift to his fans—after this year, his focus would shift more toward acting and his schedule would be less packed, so he’d have to work hard this year.

If Song Yu were well, he’d also be in meetings. But his schedule would be even more packed—filming endorsements and commercials, rushing between events and variety shows, acting in shallow but big-IP idol dramas, holding concerts and fan meets—so busy he wouldn’t even have time to breathe.

At this moment, watching Fu Yuqian wearing non-prescription glasses as he expressed his requirements for selecting acting roles and laid out his career plans, Song Yu felt a wave of envy in his heart. He also wanted to act, to portray a character well, to leave his own mark.

In the end, Fu Yuqian said, “Brother Yin, keep an eye out when you’re reviewing scripts—see if there’s anything suitable for Song Yu. I plan to sign him with Huacan in the future.”

Yin Lang wasn’t surprised at all. “No problem, I’ll filter the options.”

Song Yu was overjoyed again. It felt so good to be someone who was truly cared about.

Once he woke up, maybe he could tell Fu Yuqian about his mother—perhaps Fu Yuqian would have a way to help!

Fu Yuqian inquired about the preparations for The Tyrant’s Beloved. Hearing that everything was nearly ready, and worrying that Song Yu might wake up soon, he pushed the team to speed things up. Since the scenes between Fu Yuqian and Song Yu didn’t require too many sets, and the crew had already completed most of the basic work, with only minor adjustments needed, Yin Lang coordinated across departments and set the filming start date for the 12th day of the lunar new year. Song Yu’s shooting schedule would last 15 days.

In contrast to Fu Yuqian’s packed schedule, Xingyue Entertainment had a very quiet start to the year. With Song Yu still unconscious and other artists terminating their contracts one after another, the small agency was falling further into disarray. The only artist with any remaining name recognition was Ye Tiansi—but even his reputation was more infamous than celebrated.

Unexpectedly, Ye Tiansi actually managed to win over President Qian and held a grudge against Xingyue. As soon as the new year began, he sent over a contract termination notice. Xingyue didn’t have any leverage over Ye Tiansi and couldn’t afford to offend President Qian, so they had no choice but to let him go in frustration.

Ye Tiansi’s contract termination briefly made it onto the trending topics. He signed with a company slightly less prestigious than Huacan but still decent. As for his future development—as long as he didn’t act out again, his fans would probably still support him.

Ye Tiansi’s departure was yet another blow to Xingyue. Among the few people who knew Song Yu’s secret, Zhao Hua and the company’s CEO and vice president sat together, discussing what to do.

“That Song Yu wasn’t even seriously injured. How come he still hasn’t woken up?” Zhao Hua had lost a lot of weight, now looking older and more bitter. “If we want to save Xingyue, we have to get Song Yu to wake up!”

“Easy to say—but how do we wake him?”

Zhao Hua’s eyes darted around, and suddenly he said, “What if… his soul is missing? Maybe we should find some master to check?”
