UCS Chapter 79.3

Of course, Gao Shi was somewhat subjective. If speaking of resemblance, there was indeed about one part similarity.

Bai Mingyue’s eyes bore one part resemblance to Gao Gusheng’s—just that one part.

Gui Yan seemed somewhat lost in thought.

Bai Mingyue’s hand tightened slightly.

His voice was low, like a sigh, then he looked up at Gui Yan with a bitter smile, “Lie Yan, I’m afraid I won’t be able to race with you anymore. The doctor said before long, my left eye will lose its sight.”

“And my body…” He pressed his lips together, forcing himself to change the subject.

“You brought me another fruit basket today? You really are hopelessly dense—you don’t even know how to give proper gifts to patients.” He smiled and grabbed an orange, picking up a fruit knife. He gestured with it but hesitated, not making a move.

Gui Yan quickly took the knife from his hands, “If—if you want to eat it, I’ll peel it for you.”

He looked at Bai Mingyue’s right eye, which was even dimmer than his left, wanting to caress his cheek but withdrawing his hand. So he clenched his fists tightly, as if this could keep Bai Mingyue by his side.

“Don’t worry, Mingyue. I’ve already found suitable corneas and kidneys for you.”

The handsome young man suddenly looked up, joy mixed with disbelief, “Really?”

Gui Yan smiled, “Of course it’s true! Mingyue, with your talent, even heaven can’t bear to let you leave the racetrack.”

“I didn’t tell you before mainly because I was afraid the timing wasn’t confirmed yet, and I didn’t want you to wait anxiously.”

“Don’t worry, Mingyue. What you need to do is take good care of your body and wait for the cornea and kidney transplants.”

Bai Mingyue looked somewhat dazed, tears falling drop by drop, spreading into water stains on the bedsheet.

“I—I thought I’d never be able to…”

“What nonsense are you talking?”

Bai Mingyue gently wiped away his tears and smiled at Gui Yan, “You’ve helped me so much, I really don’t know how to thank you.”

Gui Yan shook his head, “All I want is to someday fight alongside you.”

Leaving the hospital room, Gui Yan strode toward home.

As he walked, heavy rain began falling from the sky, forcing him to take shelter under the eaves.

Looking at the rain, he couldn’t help but think of his first encounter with Gao Gusheng.

The young man in the rain was like a stray cat soaked by the downpour—pitiful and helpless, yet his eyes were so clear, so sorrowful. With just that one glance, he, who had always been arrogant and looked down on others, lowered his head for the first time and asked, “Are you alright?”

It was just that one sentence that lit up the young man’s eyes.

From then on, whenever the young man looked at him with those following eyes, they were always bright and sparkling.

If he donated his corneas, his eyes probably wouldn’t be so clear and bright anymore, would they?

This thought only flashed through Gui Yan’s mind for a brief moment, but then he vigorously shook his head, banishing the thought from his mind.

What are you thinking, Gui Yan? Gao Gusheng was nothing more than Mingyue’s substitute from the beginning, nothing more than Mingyue’s shadow, nothing more than having eyes that bore one part resemblance to Mingyue’s. How could he be worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as Mingyue?

He was just a pitiful creature who would have died in that downpour without me. Now I’m only asking for one eye and one kidney from him.

Yes, that’s right. I love Mingyue so much, I can sacrifice everything for him.

Though this matter is somewhat excessive, I’ll also give Gao Gusheng a sum of money to ensure he lives comfortably for the rest of his life.

Floating in mid-air, Gao Shi was so angry his head throbbed. This bastard had so easily decided the fate of his son’s kidney and eye.

No wonder in the previous dreams, he had seen his son in such terrible condition, with one eye gray and dim, unable to see anything.

So that’s how it was.

It seemed he had been too lenient during the day.

He shouldn’t have warned this beast while appearing to have everything under control. Instead, he should have pretended to be drunk and directly knocked him to the ground with one punch.

Gao Shi viciously kicked toward Gui Yan, who had finally made his decision and whose gaze had become resolute.

Not only did this kick not pass through, but it solidly sent Gui Yan crashing into a nearby tree.

Gao Shi knew this was probably Daoist Ying’s intervention again.

Though Gao Shi knew what he was seeing was fake, he still couldn’t help but step forward and throw a hard punch at Gui Yan’s prominent nose bridge, watching two ridiculous streams of blood slide down from his nostrils.

While beating him up, Gao Shi thought—not bad, Daoist Ying’s magical power was recovering. This dream felt more real than any he’d experienced before.

After finishing the beating, Gao Shi felt refreshed. He sensed the dream beginning to fragment and crumble—he would probably wake up soon.

As the dream collapsed, Gui Yan over there twisted and dissolved into flying ash.

However, what no one knew was that in a villa, Gui Yan suddenly sat up from his bed, gasping desperately and awkwardly, his whole body drenched in sweat.

His fingers trembled as he reached for the light switch on the wall, repeatedly checking his body, then picking up a mirror to examine his face, but found no abnormalities.

Only after a long while did he come to his senses.

It had been a nightmare.

Such a realistic nightmare—the pain of being brutally beaten in the dream was so clear, it was almost like he had actually been beaten up.

In the pitch darkness, someone had attacked him with fists and feet, the terrifying force leaving him completely powerless to resist.

Gui Yan irritably ran his hands through his hair, his mind returning to the warning he’d heard during the day.

“My son is my son. Gao Gusheng is Gao Gusheng. He’s not a substitute for Bai Mingyue.”

“But if you want to replace the Gui family, I have many methods.”

Gui Yan curved his lips, wanting to sneer in disdain.

Though the Gui family couldn’t compare to the four major families, they were at least one of the great families second only to the four major families. How could they be easily destroyed by the Gao family?

He wanted to laugh, but he couldn’t. For some reason, he felt that this man really could accomplish such a thing.

Gui Yan lay back down on the bed, but this time, as if his body was instinctively resisting sleep, he couldn’t fall asleep.

“Come on, continue.”

In an exquisitely decorated courtyard with artfully trimmed flowers and plants, it was clear the courtyard’s owner had refined taste and leisure.

In the center of the courtyard sat a small table with a wine pot and two tea cups.

Gao Shi’s vision was blurry, everything he looked at had double images, and his body felt light and floating.

The man before him wore thin black robes and sighed softly.

“You’re drunk.”

“I’m not drunk! This time in our drinking contest, I will definitely beat you!”

Gao Shi picked up his wine cup and drained it in one gulp, looking like “a small wine cup can’t do anything to me,” but his feet could barely support him.

The man before him shook his head and chuckled softly, seeming somewhat helpless, “You…”

The man picked up the wine pot again, ultimately pouring only a shallow half cup. Like drinking tea, he brought this last sip of wine to his mouth, but unexpectedly, Gao Shi, who had appeared drunk, suddenly stood up and flashed to his side. Before he could swallow the wine in his mouth, Gao Shi gripped his chin and kissed him forcefully.

Like a domineering bandit, Gao Shi plundered all the wine from the man’s mouth, then declared triumphantly, “I won!”

The alcohol gave Gao Shi’s cheeks a beautiful flush. The man’s gaze condensed slightly as he cupped his face, his thumb gently stroking the wine-fragrant, bright and rosy lower lip, “Alright, then you won.”

He gripped Gao Shi’s neck and pulled him down. Their positions reversed as the man began his assault.

Not to be outdone, Gao Shi wrapped his arms around the man’s neck and counterattacked.

Between their entangled lips and teeth, the wine’s fragrance grew stronger.

Gao Shi wanted to compete in this area too, but being drunk, his breath was slightly shorter. Gasping for air, he surrendered.

The man was also breathing slightly heavily. Looking at Gao Shi, whose neck was now flushed with a beautiful crimson, his fingers tightened. In the end, he only lowered his head to gently kiss the corner of Gao Shi’s lips, “One win, one loss—we’re even. You should rest now.”

With that, he lifted Gao Shi up. Gao Shi didn’t struggle, but he wasn’t well-behaved either, reaching out to tug at the man’s swaying hair ribbon.

That hair ribbon was extremely beautiful and delicate, with golden patterns that felt slightly cool as it passed through his fingers.

Like a disobedient cat, he wound the ribbon around his fingertips, then grasped it in his hand. Then he wrapped his arms around the man’s neck. Perhaps because the man’s slightly cool body temperature felt comfortable to lean against, or perhaps due to hunting instinct, he looked at the slightly protruding blue veins on the man’s neck and licked his canine teeth.

His neck felt tingly and numb.

The man’s hand holding Gao Shi’s shoulder tightened slightly, “Shou, stop fooling around.”

With that, he entered the room and touched Gao Shi’s forehead, wanting him to lie down and sober up.

At this moment, Gao Shi felt as if he were split in half—one half coldly observing everything, while the other half had already merged with the dream version of himself within his body.

In this moment, he was the person in the dream.

The man leaned down and touched his forehead, “You should rest now.”

But he wasn’t satisfied. He reached out to grab the man’s clothing and lifted his head to kiss him.

Tongue curling around canine teeth, wine-heavy breath; heaven and earth overturned, black hair tangled.

“Tell me, my lord, whose dark brocade is this, binding passion in the secluded palace?”

A low laugh, “Ready for battle?”

Eyes darkened, voice hoarse and deep.

“…Must stake everything for this lifetime, fulfilling your joy today.”

Dark clouds pressed down heavily from the horizon, raindrops pattering against the roof. They were about to embark on a long journey, to face fierce winds and towering waves on the vast ocean.

Though the violent sea wind had clearly blown until Gao Shi’s eyes were red at the corners, he still pretended not to care, lazily teasing with drawn-out tones, “Was tonight’s banquet not to your liking? Why are your hands at the helm so weak?”

“I’m quite satisfied tonight—how about I take over.”

His chin rested in the man’s neck. Though the dark clouds in the sky hadn’t dispersed and were growing ever more oppressive, his hands still mischievously played with the man’s hair ends, teasing about his steering.

After speaking, Gao Shi straightened up and looked at the man’s lips with full aggression.

But the next second, fierce winds whipped up a tsunami, thunder rumbled in the distance, and the symphony of the storm finally opened before his eyes. The small boat he rode rocked in the tempest.

The fierce wind wet the corners of his eyes, the horizon blurred in the storm.

To anchor himself, he clung to the mast with both hands and feet, his sharp canine teeth piercing the wooden hull as he gazed through the watery haze toward the purple lightning on the horizon.

After a long while, this movement of the storm finally reached its finale. The small boat was no longer swept by wild waves, and the sea surface slowly calmed.

Having survived the ordeal, he only then discovered that his good set of teeth had actually left a ring of bite marks on the wooden hull.

Immediately feeling guilty, like a mischievous cat that had accidentally bitten its owner, he licked the wounded area, as if trying to hide evidence or compensate for something. But suddenly he felt his waist tighten.

Looking sideways, he saw the veins on the man’s neck standing out.

“Shou…”

Gao Shi’s heart jumped. Before he could cry out “stop,” dark clouds approached the horizon again, thick lightning bolts struck down from the darkness, and Gao Shi was once more swept into the storm.

Until brilliant white lightning streaked across the sky, splitting through layers of dark clouds, this long journey finally reached its destination. The dark clouds at the horizon dispersed, revealing the deep firmament.

The arduous journey left him completely drained. He was placed back on the bed, and now that the wine had worn off, he finally saw the man’s face clearly.

It was actually… Ying Bujie’s face!

Like a clap of thunder, a bolt from the blue—Gao Shi’s eyes flew open.

He paused for two seconds, then sat up abruptly, only to be pulled back by a force from behind, falling back onto the bed.

An arm was wrapped around his waist.

He had actually fallen asleep like this last night?

Gao Shi looked back uncertainly at the dream’s illusions, then down at the blanket covering them both.

Gao Shi took two deep breaths, closed his eyes, then opened them, and decisively threw off the blanket.

“…Shit.”
