YNRHPCYC Chapter 97

A little angry

Wen Chan knew that Situ Zhoulan was a smart person.

His disgust for Situ Zhoulan was so obvious that she must have noticed it a long time ago, so she had little contact with him all the time.

But Wen Chan never thought that she would deliberately send Liang Yanbei away and take the opportunity to talk to him.

He was only taken aback for a moment, and then agreed, thinking in his heart: I would like to see what on earth she had up her sleeves.

Nodding to Situ Zhoulan, the two walked to the side. Ah Fu, Qin Qi, and Shu Hua wanted to follow. But they were stopped by Wen Chan, “You guys wait here. I will be back soon.”

Ah Fu was naturally unwilling. When he was out of the palace, he always kept close to Wen Chan. He wanted to persuade him but was stopped by Dan Ke, “Don’t worry, they won’t go far.”

Ah Fu had no choice but to look up at Liang Yanbei and wait for him to come down quickly.

In order to find a remote place, Wen Chan and Situ Zhoulan walked out of Yu Fu Street and came to the embankment on the side of the street. In the twelfth lunar month, the willow trees on both sides of the embankment were bare. At a glance, it was quite desolate, in stark contrast to the lively Yu Fu Street.

She stopped first and turned to look at Wen Chan with a cold expression on her face, “Your Highness, there is not much time. So I will make it short.”

Wen Chan noticed the lack of respect in the address “Your Highness,” but showed no anger. All his emotions were hidden beneath a calm expression; though his face still seemed a bit soft and immature, it was utterly inscrutable.

He didn’t speak, waiting for Situ Zhoulan to continue.

“We all see Yanbei’s attitude towards you. So I don’t need to elaborate on it.” Situ Zhoulan said, “I grew up with Brother Yanbei from childhood, and I’ve seen more of him than Your Highness. Your Highness may be unhappy to hear this, but I still hope that Your Highness can maintain his status and not get too entangled with Brother Yanbei.”

What she said really made Wen Chan very unhappy. He had always been concerned about not participating in Liang Yanbei’s previous life in Jinling. He even thought that the reason he lost to Situ Zhoulan in his previous life was that Situ Zhoulan and Liang Yanbei were childhood sweethearts.

This was something that Wen Chan could not change in his previous and present lives.

His dark eyes gradually grew cold, and his unhappiness caused his entire demeanor to become very oppressive.

“What do you mean by that?”

“Brother Yanbei doesn’t have an enduring and faithful love for anyone.” Situ Zhoulan couldn’t bear the pressure from Wen Chan. So she simply turned sideways and looked at the lake to stabilize her tone.

“Because of his identity, the things he likes have always been arranged and delivered to him. So he has never had any experience of not being able to get what he wants. Perhaps it is because of the noble status of His Ninth Royal Highness that Brother Yanbei feels curious.” She spoke at an unhurried pace, yet with an underlying firmness.

But this kind of firmness made Wen Chan more and more uncomfortable.

“Your Ninth Royal Highness is a smart man. He should be able to understand what I mean. Actually, Brother Yanbei used to like girls very much. Every time he went out to play, he would take me with him. We were even engaged.” She said, “My family has always been in frequent contact with the Liang family. Aunt Liang has treated me as her daughter-in-law since I was a child. If it weren’t for Brother Yanbei coming to the capital, perhaps we would have been married in Jin Ling a long time ago.”

“I came to Jin Ling this time because I received a letter from Aunt Liang. Because Your Ninth Royal Highness is too close to Brother Yanbei, Aunt Liang is very worried. So she asked me to tell Your Highness.”

“Brother Yanbei is the direct descendant of the Liang family and the eldest son. Naturally, he shoulders the heavy responsibility of opening branches and scattering leaves[footnote](fig.) to have a lot of offspring.[/footnote]. When he was young, he could play around. Uncle Liang will not discipline him strictly. But if he continues like this, it will inevitably ruin Your Highness’s reputation……”

“What does this have to do with bengong?” Wen Chan finally couldn’t listen any longer and interrupted coldly, “You should go and talk to Liang Yanbei about these things.”

Situ Zhoulan’s face remained calm, “Brother Yanbei is very stubborn. No one can stop what he wants.”

“Bengong doesn’t have the leisure to think about it for you and for the Liang family. Whether it’s that you have a marriage arranged with Liang Yanbei or that Lady Liang is worried, if you want Liang Yanbei to stay away from bengong, just go and tell him yourself.” Wen Chan’s anger was very forbearing. Situ Zhoulan’s words really touched his nerves.

After all, he was once an emperor. When Wen Chan was angry, all the civil and military officials in the court held their breath. Even if Situ Zhoulan didn’t face Wen Chan directly, she lowered her head because of the cold tone.

She was originally afraid of Wen Chan’s identity, but the trip to Wuyue island made her feel that Wen Chan didn’t have the noble sense of superiority of a prince. She had weighed it again and again before daring to say these words.

But she still gritted her teeth and said, “Your Highness, but you are the biggest problem.”

“Bengong?” Wen Chan felt that it was exceptionally funny, “If Liang Yanbei really likes men, even if there is no bengong, there will be someone else. How come bengong has become the biggest problem? Situ Zhoulan, do you think that since bengong is good-tempered, bengong can tolerate your nonsense?”

“Your Highness, over the past few years, we have been treating Brother Yanbei. We thought he had recovered, but after arriving in the capital, his illness recurred. The root cause was that he dreamed of His Royal Highness before coming to the capital.“ She said, “Maybe Brother Yanbei has already told his Royal Highness that he painted a portrait and hung it in his room at the end of last year. At that time, none of us knew the person in the portrait. Even if we asked Brother Yanbei, he shook his head straight, just saying that he had dreamed of this person in his dream, and he didn’t what his full name was.”

“Later, when we met His Ninth Royal Highness, we knew who the person in Brother Yanbei’s dream was.” Situ Zhoulan paused for a moment and then said, “Brother Yanbei doesn’t like men; he just cares more about His Royal Highness.”

After listening to her words, Wen Chan felt a headache. Situ Zhoulan kept calling him Brother Yanbei, which made him extremely irritated. He didn’t even want to ask what disease Liang Yanbei had. He just said, “Bengong will give you an idea. Maybe your Brother Yanbei has been bewitched. When you go back, burn the portrait he drew, and he will be able to wake up.”

He added, “Since you are an old acquaintance of Liang Yanbei, bengong will forgive you this time. If there is a next time, bengong will punish you for disrespect and throw you in jail for ten and a half years.”

See how you can get your hands on Liang Yanbei then!

Situ Zhoulan was frightened and stiffened, not daring to move. Wen Chan then left with a flick of his sleeve and returned to the bottom of Hundred Flowers Tower with angry steps.

At that time, Liang Yanbei had already picked up the flower ball and was talking to Dan Ke about something. He looked over here from time to time. As soon as Wen Chan approached, he saw it in an instant. He immediately broke off the conversation with Dan Ke and went to meet Wen Chan.

However, Wen Chan was angry at this time. Thinking of what Situ Zhoulan said just now, he became even angrier when he saw Liang Yanbei. Before Liang Yanbei could speak, Wen Chan sneered and walked straight past him, ignoring him.

Liang Yanbei was confused, turned around, and followed, whispering, “Your Highness.”

Wen Chan turned a deaf ear and walked to Ah Fu under the gaze of several people. Seeing that he was still holding Liang Yanbei’s snow-white cloak in his arms, he immediately became angry. He snatched it away and threw it to the ground. With a cold face, he said to Ah Fu, “Let’s go back to the palace!”

After saying that, he walked straight out without stopping. The people keenly saw that His Ninth Royal Highness was in a bad mood, and they avoided his path one after another. Wen Chan walked unimpeded and walked fast. And soon, he walked out of Yu Fu Street.

Liang Yanbei looked puzzled. He held the flower ball in one hand, bent down to pick up his cloak, and asked Dan Ke, “Is His Highness angry?”

Dan Ke was frightened a lot and said in a daze, “It seems that he is quite angry.”

He pondered for a moment and said, “You and Zhoulan should pack up and prepare to return to Jin Ling.”

“Biaoge! We just got here!” Dan Ke’s face changed, and he screamed, “Besides, this matter has nothing to do with me.”

Liang Yanbei put on his cloak, looked down at the flower ball in his hand, changed his hand holding it, and hid it in the cloak. And when he looked up, he saw Situ Zhoulan slowly approaching.

He said, “Let’s go. I’ll take you to the Yamen.”

Wen Chan returned to the palace, angry all the way. Ah Fu was curious about what Situ Zhoulan had said to the master. But he didn’t dare to ask, and he held back all the way.

After bringing them back to Xiyang Palace, Wen Chan went directly into the main hall, closed the door, and ignored everyone.

He sat alone in a soft chair, and when he thought of Situ Zhoulan’s words, he was so angry that his face turned red.

She kept saying that she grew up with Liang Yanbei, how well she knew Liang Yanbei, and how good her relationship with the Liang family was. In short, she was trying to prove to Wen Chan that he was just an insignificant outsider.

Or, a passer-by in Liang Yanbei’s life.

He had always known this, but when Situ Zhoulan emphasized it, his whole body became uncomfortable.

Just because he missed Liang Yanbei’s youth, no matter how close he was to him later, he couldn’t match Situ Zhoulan’s smiles and frowns?

Humph! Wen Chan thought: Do you think I care? I have survived in my previous life, so why am I afraid of another one?

Originally, he was full of fighting spirit, but after thinking about it again, he was indeed quite scared. Otherwise, he would not have tried every means to avoid and ignore Liang Yanbei when he was reborn.

He slowly calmed himself down, comforting himself by thinking that this life was different from the previous life, and he should not be affected by the words of that annoying woman.

Ah Fu was waiting at the door of the palace hall, and when he estimated that the time was almost up, he knocked on the door gently, “Your Highness, this minion brought the divine bird sent by Young Master Liang.”

The voice reached inside, and Wen Chan’s brows relaxed immediately.

If possible, he really wanted to throw the bird in Situ Zhoulan’s face and shout: See! This time, Liang Yanbei gave the bird to me! Not to you!

He sighed and said, “Bring it in.”

Ah Fu was delighted and hurriedly carried the birdcage into the hall. He walked in front of Wen Chan and said, “Your Highness, look, this divine bird is very smart. It just noticed that your Highness was in a bad mood and kept calling out for you.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the bird said in a clear voice, “Your Highness! Your Highness!”

Wen Chan was slightly taken aback. Although he knew that this bird was extremely smart, he didn’t expect it to be so smart. It must be that it had just been listening to others, so it learned it.

Wen Chan said, “You leave it here. I’ll play with it for a while.”

Ah Fu obviously felt that his mood had improved a lot, and he withdrew from the hall, complying with him.

The heating in the hall was burning brightly, and the warm feeling made Wen Chan’s temperament gradually return to a gentle state. He looked at the bird with fiery red feathers in front of him, and the more he looked at it, the more beautiful it seemed. He thought to himself that it was not unreasonable for him to covet it for so long in his previous life.

This bird was born exquisite, and there was no trace of mixed color on its feathers. It moved very slowly, without the clumsiness of ordinary birds, and every move seemed to be elegant.

Wen Chan stretched out his fingers to touch its feathers and saw that it suddenly leaned its head over and nudged Wen Chan’s fingers. The soft touch made Wen Chan involuntarily curl the corners of his mouth.

The next moment, the light voice of a little girl sounded.

“Ah Chan, did you have a good meal today?
