Chapter 22

Be My Woman

Standing in the elevator, they ascended from the basement to the penthouse, heightening the sense of transition and anticipation.

From start to finish, she had been like a puppet, allowing him to maneuver her. “Leng Muxun, what exactly do you want?”

He lifted the teacup, blew gently on the steam rising from it, and, through the misty vapor, replied, “Be my woman.”

Those seemingly casual words exploded in Zhong Wanqiu’s mind like sizzling scallions in a wok. She stared at him in disarray, feeling exposed and overwhelmed, her thoughts consumed by shock.

The man took a sip of tea and waved a hand in front of her face. “What, unwilling?”

She grew angry. Why should she agree just because he told her to be his woman? Was he insane?

Furious, she stood up and flung the glass of water at him with force, instantly drenching his face and clothes. Droplets began to drip continuously from his damp hair onto the carpet, where they quickly vanished. “I refuse,” she shouted, her voice echoing throughout the living room.

He remained silent, not even bothering to dry himself, letting the water stains stay as a quiet sign of his calm presence. He glanced at her with gentle concern before turning to retrieve a first aid kit, showing his care.

As she approached him, her heart pounded uncontrollably, revealing her inner turmoil and the complexity of her feelings toward him.

Had he lost his mind?

As she approached him, her heart pounded uncontrollably, and her leg throbbed painfully. She gritted her teeth, trying to hide her discomfort, feeling exposed and fragile in that moment.

Her leg was severely swollen, and her pants, damp with sweat, clung to her skin, impossible to remove. Leng Muxun took a small pair of scissors from the first aid kit and, with a “rip,” cut the fabric open, revealing her frighteningly red and swollen leg. Zhong Wanqiu clenched her teeth as he applied the medicine. Truth be told, his movements were practiced, like those of a professional surgeon. Most importantly, every item in his first-aid kit, medicines, and instruments was of the highest quality and professional grade, as if he had brought her up solely to treat her leg injury.

Applying the ointment and bandaging the wound, he completed all the steps seamlessly. The medicine seemed to contain mint, quickly cooling her leg and bringing a comfortable sensation. As the pain gradually subsided, her anger diminished slightly. Watching him tidy up the first aid kit, she said softly, “Thank you.”

“It’s what I should do. I was the one who hit you. Thankfully, it’s only a flesh wound. Still, it’s best to get an X-ray at the hospital tomorrow morning to be completely sure.” As he spoke, he had already put the first aid kit back in place and returned to sit opposite her.

The air was filled with the faint scent of his Eau de cologne mixed with the aroma of medicine. That sense of tranquility made Zhong Wanqiu hear her own heartbeat. Being with him gave her a feeling of oppression, and even more so, a sense of fluster.
