“Ah…” A piercing scream tore through the tranquil night sky of T University. With that cry, Zhong Wanqiu turned and fled in panic, tears welling in her eyes. The scene she had just witnessed had completely shattered her heart.
Xia Jingxuan.
Jin Ruoxue.
That lavish and passionate kiss.
Yet, Xia Jingxuan had always been her boyfriend, something everyone at T University knew.
But now, everything had changed. Not only were Xia Jingxuan and Jin Ruoxue embracing, but they had also even… even kissed.
“Wanqiu…” Hearing Wanqiu’s voice, Xia Jingxuan instinctively released Jin Ruoxue and turned to chase after Zhong Wanqiu.
The sound of Xia Jingxuan’s footsteps echoed in her ears, each step heavily pounding against Wanqiu’s heart, causing such intense pain.
No, she didn’t want him to catch up to her. Now, she wouldn’t let him lay a single finger on her.
He had deceived her. Once, he told her she was his only love, yet he had secretly met with Jin Ruoxue in the very place where he and Wanqiu used to date.
She laughed bitterly in her heart. He must have thought she was off tutoring again. Yes, she had indeed gone, but when she arrived at her student’s home, she discovered the student had gone to the movies with their parents. It was only then that she noticed an unread text message on her phone; the student had already informed her. In her rush after school, she hadn’t checked her phone and missed it. Yet now, she didn’t regret encountering this situation at all.
She had even told Xia Jingxuan about her tutoring job.
She should be grateful. If not for witnessing that scene, how could she have seen someone’s true colors?
Xia Jingxuan and Jin Ruoxue.
Tears streamed down Zhong Wanqiu’s face, blurring the path ahead. Her frantic sprint had drawn the attention of scattered groups of people across the campus.
But what did it matter here?
She honestly didn’t care.
All she wanted now was to get as far away from Xia Jingxuan as possible. Otherwise, she felt even the air around her was tainted.
Dashing out of the campus gate at an astonishing speed, even though she didn’t know where it came from, she managed to outrun the long-legged Xia Jingxuan.
Standing by the roadside in front of the campus, Zhong Wanqiu’s gaze fell upon the road. Strangely, it wasn’t late yet. According to T City’s habits, people would have just finished dinner, and there should have been plenty of taxis around. Yet not only were there no taxis, but there also wasn’t a single car on the road.
“Wanqiu…”
Xia Jingxuan’s voice grew closer.
Wanqiu anxiously scanned the road again and finally spotted a vehicle, though it wasn’t a taxi.
It didn’t matter. Whatever car it was, she would get in, as long as it could take her away from Xia Jingxuan. She didn’t want to hear any explanations from him; what she had seen with her own eyes couldn’t be false.
Shifting her body, she made a stopping gesture and, without a second thought, stepped into the middle of the road, positioning herself directly in the path of the approaching car.
“Screech…” A sharp sound erupted as the brakes slammed, the noise uncomfortable to the eardrums. The car window rolled down instantly, and a cold voice barked at Wanqiu, “Get out of the way! If you want to die, don’t crash into my car.”
The voice was magnetic and pleasant, a stark contrast to his icy demeanor, but none of that mattered anymore. Without a second thought, Wanqiu rushed to the passenger door and demanded, “Open up, I’m getting in.” As if the car were her personal vehicle.
The man shook his head disdainfully. “Crazy.” With that, he ignored her completely and began reversing, intending to steer clear of her and drive off.
The road remained empty of other cars, as if this vehicle had arrived solely to rescue her.
From behind, Xia Jingxuan’s voice rang out again, loud and clear, “Wanqiu, don’t go! I need to talk to you.”
Hearing Xia Jingxuan’s voice, and driven by some inexplicable burst of courage, Zhong Wanqiu leaped onto the hood of the reversing car. Clutching the taillight tightly, she was determined to escape no matter what; she couldn’t let Xia Jingxuan catch up to her.
“Shit! She really is crazy.” The man frowned, his handsome face etched with even more profound contempt. Glancing at Xia Jingxuan, who was closing in, he asked her, “Who is he to you?”
