88.
Surprisingly, Liang Hui looked great in a cheongsam. She had a striking beauty that perfectly matched the elaborate cheongsam.
Even her stylish medium-brown wavy hair added an extra charm to her look.
Zhou Mengyu was clearly very satisfied with finding Liang Pei’s sister as a model. He grabbed Liang Hui’s arm and spun around several times, his eyes shining with excitement as he looked at Liang Pei, “Isn’t she pretty?”
Liang Pei narrowed his eyes, looking at his sister.
His sister gazed at the sky.
Liang Pei whispered. “It looks good.”
After saying that, he reached into his pocket, grabbed a lighter, and left, “I’m going out for a smoke. You two take care of things.”
Zhou Mengyu clearly didn’t notice anything unusual about Liang Pei, eagerly looking for a tape measure to measure Liang Hui’s size, “Sister, have you been doing any new hairstyles recently?”
Liang Hui touched her hair. “For the cheongsam, should I straighten it and dye it black?”
“Don’t worry, don’t worry, this color is great. I’ve got inspiration. I might have to tie your hair up later.”
“No problem,” Liang Hui readily agreed, then cleared her throat casually, “Xiao Yu, do you have a girlfriend?”
Zhou Mengyu didn’t mind, “Not yet, not yet!”
“Someone as handsome as you doesn’t have a girlfriend? You’re pulling my leg.”
“I’ll be honest, all the girls think I’m gay. Sister, do I look like it?” Zhou Mengyu looked up, his expression slightly aggrieved.
89.
Liang Hui almost burst out laughing, suppressing her laughter as she shook her head, “Not like it. Who says that just because someone is handsome and has long hair, they must be gay, right?”
Zhou Mengyu felt as if his world had brightened, almost brought to tears with emotion, “Sister, you really are my sister. Even my mom thinks I’m gay! You’re the first woman in the world to believe I’m straight.”
Liang Hui quickly waved her hands, “No, I can’t be your sister.”
If I were your older sister, my other younger brother would definitely eat me alive.
“So what do you think of Liang Pei? He’s introverted, but he’s actually very caring, right?” the older sister asked.
Zhou Mengyu strongly agrees, “Yes, he’s considerate, and I don’t think he’s reserved at all; he’s quite fine. Although Liang Pei is two years younger than me, he sometimes seems more mature than I am.”
Ah, Liang Hui felt a bit regretful for not having her phone record something or other.
The recording, if sold to Liang Pei, would fetch five hundred; he’d snap it up without a word.
Liang Hui quietly reached into her bag, found her phone, unlocked it, and opened the recording.
“He really is mature. He has his own mind about everything he does. Things like what he learned as a child or which university he attended don’t concern his family.”
Zhou Mengyu chuckled, “Yes, that’s exactly how Liang Pei is. Unlike many spoiled children today, it’s very comfortable to be around him.”
“Are more boys or girls chasing him?” she asked.
“Probably more girls, but there must be some boys too, from the sports department, you know,” Zhou Mengyu replied.
“You think he has someone he really likes? I’m curious what he’s like in a relationship; he’s never had one, still a virgin at his age,” Liang Hui said with disdain, her words shocking Zhou Mengyu once again
Zhou Mengyu chose to ignore the last sentence, “He barely interacts with girls; he’s extremely aloof.”
90.
“What about with you?” Liang Hui asked.
……
Zhou Mengyu paused for a moment, a bit taken aback by the question. But as he considered it, many things naturally came to mind. Liang Pei helping him move things for the drama club, buying him walnut milk, bringing him meals, taking him to the shooting club, and so on.
“He’s really good to me. I guess people like that are just cold on the outside but warm on the inside? They’re only willing to show it after getting to know you better.” Zhou Mengyu said.
“If I started dating, I’d probably just focus on being good to my partner.” Liang Hui said in a low voice.
It took Zhou Mengyu a while to finally nod and say, “That’s what you should do. Good friends have to learn to step back.”
91.
Liang Hui was coming over today to take measurements. The next week was the schedule set by Zhou Mengyu, and she won’t need to come over much. It’s only after wearing it that she’ll need to come frequently to make final adjustments.
Half an hour later, the sister came out of the studio.
Liang Pei squatted at the doorway, smoking his last cigarette.
His sister had changed back into her own tank top, waved her phone at him for a full three minutes, showing the recording, “You must want to hear it, five hundred bucks, buy or not?”
Liang Pei sent his sister 666 via mobile payment.
When Liang Pei returned to the room, Zhou Mengyu was staring blankly at a cheongsam, not even hearing Liang Pei enter.
Liang Pei stepped beside him and waved his hand in front of his face. “Zhou Mengyu?”
“Ah!” Zhou Mengyu finally snapped back to reality, glanced at Liang Pei, looked for a long time, then leaned in to sniff his scent, “How many did you smoke?”
“Can’t stand the smell of smoke?” Liang Pei asked.
Zhou Mengyu waved his hand, “No, I just want to try. Can I have one?”
92.
Liang Pei didn’t really have a strong addiction to smoking. When he felt upset, he would smoke a couple of cigarettes after eating and while taking a walk.
But his cigarettes were quite strong; in fact, they weren’t suitable for a beginner like Zhou Mengyu.
Quite a few people were smoking in college, but most of them smoked thin-stemmed cigarettes. Zhou Mengyu didn’t quite understand the difference between thick and thin-stemmed cigarettes.
Liang Pei’s cigarettes are thick-stemmed, and they have a strong presence in the hand, even more so when held in the mouth.
Before Liang Pei lit the cigarette, he taught him, “You have to inhale when you light it, otherwise, it won’t light.”
Zhou Mengyu nodded.
“Snap!” The lighter flared up with an eerie blue flame, and Zhou Mengyu inhaled sharply! The cigarette was lit, but he coughed violently.
Liang Pei frowned as he pulled the cigarette out of his mouth, pinching it between two fingers, “Want another try?”
After coughing, Zhou Mengyu looked at him, “Did I do something wrong?”
Liang Pei directly took the cigarette in his hand and put it in his own mouth, his voice muffled from biting the cigarette, “You can inhale with your mouth or nose, I’m used to inhaling with my mouth, the blow out through the nose, don’t swallow it down.”
He took a drag, and the tip of the cigarette flared up with a bright red light, then smoke puffed out of his nostrils after a moment.
Then Liang Pei took the cigarette out of his mouth and handed it to Zhou Mengyu, “Try?”
93.
Zhou Mengyu took it, put it in his mouth, and imitated Liang Pei’s manner, first taking a shallow sip before successfully blowing it out through his nose.
Aside from the choking sensation, he didn’t feel anything else.
After taking three puffs, with only a small portion left, the novice, not yet experiencing the joy of smoking, wanted to stub it out on the ground.
Liang Pei intercepted it and put it in his mouth.
Zhou Mengyu suddenly stared at Liang Pei for a while, his eyes fixed on him.
He saw the smoke envelop Liang Pei and then disperse.
“Hmm?” Liang Pei uttered a single syllable, as if to say, “What are you looking at?”
“Every guy in college smokes, and I always thought they were just showing off,” Zhou Mengyu said. Then he smacked his lips, tasted the flavor in his mouth, and looked slightly pained. “Now I’m sure that 80% of people smoke just to show off. I don’t think it’s cool at all, and I don’t really understand why they’re so pretentious.”
“But you’re different, you actually look quite handsome smoking,” Zhou Mengyu said.
Liang Pei chuckled, a cigarette dangling from his lips, “Do straight men all compliment each other’s looks so directly?”
Zhou Mengyu choked up, “That’s right, didn’t you just compliment me on my looks? It’s only polite to reciprocate.”
Liang Pei stubbed out his cigarette on the ground. “Hmm, you are indeed good-looking.”
94.
Zhou Mengyu spent almost all of the week in the studio, except when he was in class.
The dormitory was almost empty except for the junior and Liang Pei.
One afternoon, the junior student messaged Zhou Mengyu, crying out, “Brother, my dear brother! I never realized before that this dormitory needed you so much!”
Zhou Mengyu saw the message half an hour later and replied, “What’s wrong, my dear brother? Missing me?”
Junior: “I don’t know why, but I don’t dare to talk to Liang Pei when you’re not around. He didn’t yell at me or ignore me, but I don’t dare to talk to him!”
Zhou Mengyu: “It’s obvious that you’re closer to me than to Liang Pei.”
Junior: “You’re wrong. What I mean is: It’s obvious that Liang Pei is closer to you than to me.”
Zhou Mengyu: “Good brother, do you know what often causes dormitory relationships to fall apart?”
Junior: “I know, we agreed to be best buddies and stay single together forever, but you two secretly got together behind my back.”
Zhou Mengyu: “………..”
Zhou Mengyu: “It stems from calculating who is closer to whom.”
Zhou Mengyu: “It comes from figuring out who is closer to whom.”
Junior: “Hehe, am I the kind of person who holds grudges? Then come and see for yourself.
When he’s sharing watermelon with you, he calls your name. When he brings you food, he calls you to eat. When he wakes you up, he patiently stands by your bedside waiting for you to wake up!”
The junior student said, “When he shared watermelon with me or brought me lunch, he wouldn’t say a word; he would just put it on my desk, tell me to get up, pat my blanket a couple of times, and leave. If I grumbled a bit, he would tell me to shut up and get up!!!”
Zhou Mengyu: “As far as I know, he has always treated you like this.”
Junior: “………..”
Junior: “Why don’t you tell me the truth? Are you two together?”
95.
Disturbed by his junior, Zhou Mengyu suddenly lost interest in burying himself in his drawings.
I miss my dorm room, I miss room 506, I miss the shredded pork with garlic sauce rice that Liang Pei would bring me so that not a drop of soup would spill on his desk, I miss my junior, I miss Liang Pei.
A day apart feels like three autumns!
Although we had just met that morning.
Zhou Mengyu grabbed his keys and left, even buying three smoothies downstairs at the dormitory.
He bought himself a mango drink, a yogurt drink for his junior, and a coffee drink for Liang Pei.
Zhou Mengyu hummed a song as he carried his shaved ice upstairs to the fifth floor. It was lunchtime, and the hallway was relatively quiet.
He didn’t know why he felt a little excited and also inexplicably nervous.
He pushed open the door to dormitory 506 and shouted, “Brothers! I’m back to see you!”
The younger student jumped out of bed, didn’t even put on his shoes, and hopped over to hug him, exclaiming, “You finally decided to come back!”
Zhou Mengyu glanced at Liang Pei’s empty bed. “Liang Pei isn’t here?”
The junior nodded, “I heard that his class advisor asked him to go out for something, and he didn’t even eat lunch at school.”
Zhou Mengyu, holding a coffee-flavored smoothie, blankly uttered an “Oh.”
“Oh.”
T/N: I’m pretty sure I just fell in love with Liang Hui, LOL. Anyways, enjoy the chapter! Let me know if you see any mistakes!
