PLCMW Chapter 2

Chong Lou didn’t like the girl her Miss had brought back.

Miss Ying had always been such a composed person, fully focused on her ambitions, advancing step by step with caution. But before Miss Ying had even become a ruler, she had already encountered this “bewitching beauty.” Since then, nothing was more important than her “little Xue’er.”

They went to Beishan to find medicine, and though Miss Ying found it, she gave it to that girl first. Night after night, she transferred her internal energy to the girl, disregarding her own health.

Chong Lou couldn’t bear to watch and wanted to take her place, but Miss Ying refused.

She said, “Chong Lou, I finally understand why some people would choose a beauty over an empire. For someone like her, it’s a pleasure to devote everything.”

Chong Lou looked at her Miss, confused, noticing the rosy blush of infatuation on her face. A chill crept through her, along with a bit of sympathy for the beautiful, oblivious girl.

But ever since Miss Ying brought her back to Yucheng, her behavior had become even more reckless. The girl was locked away in her personal tent, not allowed to be seen by anyone. The luxurious jewels obtained from the siege were used just to win the girl’s smile, and most notably, Miss Ying couldn’t hide the constant smile on her face.

Her wild behavior had likely spread throughout the entire Ying clan. Chong Lou had already dealt with wave after wave of people trying to gather information.

“Miss…” Chong Lou came in holding some documents, finding Ying Weige cradling her “little Xue’er” while studying a map.

“Any new developments outside?”

“Rumors are flying. People are saying you’ve taken in a little concubine. Young Master Dan, I hear, is so angry he coughed up blood and is rushing to Yucheng overnight. How are we going to explain this when he arrives?”

Given Xue’er’s inhuman appearance, she couldn’t possibly be shown to outsiders. Not to mention, Miss Ying’s intimacy with her would spark even more criticism.

Right now, the rumors were just that the eldest daughter of the Ying family was hiding a beauty in her tent. If “little Xue’er” were to make an appearance, the rumors would turn into accusations that the Ying clan’s daughter was colluding with a monster, bringing calamity to the Central Plains.

Chong Lou really didn’t want that to happen.

“Heh, he’s not angry because of me…” The smile on Ying Weige’s face faded. “It’s just that Father suddenly realized it would benefit him more to find me an invisible husband. Dan… he was always just my father’s reluctant choice. And yet, he still foolishly thought he could win the support of my cold-blooded father.”

Chong Lou remained silent. The head of the family had many concubines, but the only heir left was the Miss, born to the wife who died early. The clan’s rules were strict, and without an heir, the power would fall to a branch family. So the family head had chosen a son from the branch family, raised him since childhood, and paired him with his daughter.

Luckily, in these chaotic times where traditions had broken down, Miss Ying, as the eldest daughter of the Ying family, was able to establish her own forces.

The girl in Ying Weige’s arms stirred, immediately drawing her attention.

“Xue’er, what’s wrong?”

Chong Lou glanced over, startled to see a glimmer of awareness in the girl’s eyes.

Could it be? Could a fool actually regain her senses under Miss Ying’s careful care?
