逆转 (Reverse) – 莲鹤夫人
Chapter 6
The alpha didn’t say anything. He looked at him as if he were seeing a new person for the first time.
The omega gritted his jaw. He looked like he was on fire as his face flushed and strained veins showed along his cheekbones. In the end, he didn’t even lift his hand to wipe away his tears. He just turned and walked out of the suffocating room.
It didn’t matter whether it brought him down with it—or his family.
The day he became an omega, these words began to form in his heart. After this marriage collapsed, these feelings had been boiling and marinating inside him for more than ten years.
Ten years.
Spring turned into winter, and summer turned into fall. Rain and snow followed a never-ending cycle throughout the seasons. Swallows flew south and then came back. He matured from a boy to a young man and then from a young man to this sad, unsuccessful marriage.
I don’t love you anymore, he thought blankly.
I honestly… don’t love you anymore.
His body looked like it was getting a little stronger again. Looking on the bright side, he wasn’t in heat just now—no mating cycle, no binding frenzy. If the alpha was willing to divorce him, he could have his mark removed and travel freely, exploring places he’d never been before and making friends he’d never been allowed to meet. What was left for an omega like him to fear now that heat was gone?
There were still cold tears on his chin, but his lips had already been pushed up at the corners.
He thought, “I guess I should make some beta friends and find out what their lives are really like.”
The alpha stayed sitting in his study, and how he was sitting didn’t change, making him look like a figure that was frozen in time.
Words held power. Language held power. A sharp blade could cut through a thick sheep bone, just like sharp words could cut through a heart without drawing blood. In this very moment, he felt as though he were confronting that unseen blade: quick, dazzling, and its tip blazing with fire.
The alpha didn’t like to use the word “pain.” But those words—together with the omega’s face, which was soaked with tears, and his furious, determined stare—had really hurt him, leaving his mind blank until now.
…What was his wife like before?
Docile. Quiet. Soft. Like a rare, luxurious white tea plant. The alpha knew the second he laid eyes on him that he was just another ordinary omega—easy to read at a glance and submissive enough to hold with one hand. A stunning, empty-headed beauty. Since they were all like that, what difference did it make which one he married?
So it was true that he had viewed his wife like a pretty white tea blossom—something to be admired, but not seriously considered.
He was even more entertained by the omega’s reactions after bringing him home. He knew exactly how omegas were taught: take care of the home, raise children, and serve the husband. But he still didn’t understand why the omega was trying so hard to get closer to him. A “gift” sent here as a bargaining chip by his family—could someone of that nature truly remain so ignorant?
This was the first time he had realized that this was not the omega’s true self. It was the ideal wife he had imposed onto him. He had never tried to understand him even once.
And now the omega stood there, eyes burning, tears streaming uncontrollably—after gently forgiving him twice.
To be fair, that wasn’t a small amount. Just as the alpha had previously said—had he been in his shoes, he would have…
The tapping of the pen tip on the paper stopped. His thoughts stopped with it.
…If it were him.
He suddenly realized that he knew very well that what he had done to the omega was something that no normal person could forgive. He had just never considered his wife, who was reliant on him and his family, to be a human being on equal footing with him.
Fine.
The alpha uncapped the pen and quickly stroked across the paper, a mischievous grin creeping back onto his lips.
He was never indebted to anyone.
In the evening, the alpha made an unusual appearance at the dinner table and presented the omega with a piece of paper.
The omega tried not to show any signs of discomfort by keeping his face expressionless. What’s written on this page? Was there a divorce agreement he needed to sign? Or…
He took it silently, wiped his hands on his light-brown apron, and said nothing. Even though he felt uncomfortable being around his husband again after that morning’s heated confrontation, the alpha spoke as soon as he opened the paper.
“This is a liability agreement.” His face didn’t show any signs of rage or happiness, “In the upcoming rut, you’re welcome to tell me to fuck off. Even if I act terribly when you turn me down, it won’t be your fault.”
The omega stood motionless, speechless. “But… ”
He was going to say something about how the alpha clung so closely during rut that it would’ve been useless. Why do this, anyway?
The alpha knew exactly why he was hesitating and grinned, “Don’t worry. I’ll do anything you ask. Without any exceptions.”
After a moment, he added, “The cure development has hit a roadblock. If the trials don’t succeed soon or if a cure is never discovered, I want to ensure that I don’t become completely dependent on an omega during my rut. Understand?”
The omega wasn’t sure how he felt. Like a weight had been lifted—but not entirely.
So it was practice for the rut.
“Okay.” He gave a subtle nod, tucked the waiver away, and said, “I understand, sir.”
As for the divorce…
They can talk about it later.
