Chapter 20

Waiting for Her All Night

She was terrified that Leng Muxun would call her over to torment her again, her heart pounding with dread, but unexpectedly, he didn’t summon her anymore. After finishing a bottle of red wine, he quietly left, leaving her in uneasy silence. When she realized he had disappeared, she initially thought he had gone to the VIP room, her mind racing with uncertainty.

It was busy. Zhong Wanqiu worked hard, pushing alcohol sales; her legs felt so weak from exhaustion that she feared she couldn’t keep going. By the time her shift ended, her body was trembling, and she had only taken simple anti-inflammatory medication to cope.

Exhausted, she stepped out of Fengjian. The summer night breeze gently brushed against her skin, carrying the faint scent of jasmine, and she felt extremely comfortable. She loved this kind of wind far better than the air conditioning inside the bar, refreshing and pleasant, as it seemed to clear her mind and soothe her aching legs.

It was so late that buses had stopped running. Wanqiu scanned the street, hoping to hail a taxi quickly. Just then, a sleek black BMW suddenly pulled out from the parking lot, its polished surface gleaming under the streetlights. At first glance, it looked somewhat familiar, adding a layer of mystery.

Could it be Leng Muxun?

Zhong Wanqiu turned her face away, refusing to look at the car, just hoping for a taxi to pass by soon.

But none came. In the night, neon lights shimmered with the magnificent illusion of debauchery, yet not a single taxi passed by.

The BMW slowly pulled up beside her. The man inside rolled down the window, his deep voice breaking the night’s silence. “Get in.”

Who was he to her? Should she get in because he told her to?

They had absolutely no relationship now. If it weren’t for Xia Jingxuan’s betrayal that night, she wouldn’t have paid him any attention at all.

“Get in,” the man repeated in his low voice, though his tone had noticeably softened.

People were gradually leaving the bar, all giving curious looks at the scene. Zhong Wanqiu even overheard whispering. The hostess who had been promoting XO earlier passed by Wanqiu and gossipily remarked, “Xiao Qiu, so you two know each other?”

“We don’t. Don’t talk nonsense,” Zhong Wanqiu replied with an embarrassed smile. “A Qing, could you give me a ride?”

“Well…” A Qing hesitated, glancing at Leng Muxun’s luxurious BMW, clearly intending to refuse.

Zhong Wanqiu was truly angry. Leng Muxun’s behavior was causing her a lot of trouble. Seeing A Qing’s uncomfortable expression, she whispered, “Never mind, you go ahead.”

Hearing her say, ” Never mind, A Qing quickly hurried away as if granted amnesty.

As she watched everyone leaving one by one, Zhong Wanqiu still hadn’t managed to get a taxi. Damn it, it seemed whenever she encountered Leng Muxun, she had terrible luck.

The more she walked, the more her legs hurt severely. Under the dim streetlights, her figure moved alone through the quiet night. Only the occasional sound of passing cars broke the silence, making her feel even more lonely.

Beside her, the car continued to follow her step by step. She couldn’t outrun his luxury vehicle, so she could only let his car closely trail her.

Just as she spotted a taxi approaching, Zhong Wanqiu quickly waved. The cab slowed down, but when it drew nearer and saw the BMW beside her, it accelerated and drove away without any intention of stopping.

Zhong Wanqiu could no longer contain her frustration. She stopped and shouted at the man in the car, “Sir, now it’s not me bothering you, it’s you bothering me.” With his car following her like this, even if a taxi passed by, it wouldn’t stop for her, assuming it was just a couple arguing.

But she and he were actually strangers; she had just accidentally boarded the wrong car once. But this time, she didn’t want to.

“Get in the car,” the man said again, his tone carrying an indescribable air of dominance.
